I actually had a nap.

Written by Annie on January 2nd, 2009

After a series of late night parties, late night television/movie watching, and late night doing-nothings which all basically equal to sleep deprivation (thanks to a great thing we call holiday season), the tiredness finally came to me.

There’s always been something a little weird with my body in which I don’t feel tired until the next day. This results in me never knowing when to go to sleep, and therefore feeling 10x more tired waking up the next morning than going to bed the previous night. Usually, this screwed up biological clock thing wouldn’t be so bad, it’s just that I happen to have an inordinate amount of energetic friends that never get tired period, and they like planning things to do - a lot of things, might I add - during the so-called winter “break.” I have difficulty saying no to people. It’s amazing I’ve gotten by without taking drugs.

Yesterday, I think, was the last holiday party. Last night of staying up late. Waking up today, I felt unusually tired. I canceled my movie and lunch plans with two friends. And so, what else do you do with a free day around the house? When you’re painstakingly tired?

Not much.

After dinner, I lied down on the couch, put the big throw over me, and took a nap. I think it’s the best nap I’ve taken in a while - I feel really good right now. It was one hell of a long nap, too. Two and a half hours. Gee, that can be a whole night of sleep for some people. I read somewhere that the ideal nap is 20 minutes long, eek. It’s amazing no one woke me up, and even more nothing woke me up (read: telemarketers)

At least I didn’t have one of those dumb evening naps that end up screwing over your sleeping schedule for the next week. Because it’s around 11 now and sleeping doesn’t sound like such a bad idea (my cozy nap was around 7).

Anyway, I just felt like documenting the fact that I had a successful nap, or maybe half-sleep since it was so long. They always end up going into overtime, or not happening at all.

Maybe 2009 really will be a good year for my sleep. I have a resolution: 8 hours of sleep at least 5x a week. I know, it sounds impossible. Aren’t resolutions all.

Nap in the car

The above is a picture that a friend shot for me in the car, probably coming home from a shopping trip, because I recognize my neighbor’s red truck in the background. She thought it was cute, how bundled up I was and napping however innocently, so I thought I’d insert it here considering it’s like napping and this post is about napping… and you get the idea. Please note, I realize this image is extremely bad quality. It was sent in an email through Picassa Web Images (don’t get me started on how much I hate that program) and the image size was 20.01kB.

To make up for that, I have included a really cute (free) stock image I found a while ago while searching for other stock images. I think it’s cute. Not all that relevant, but oh, what the hell.

I love naps. I didn’t know the recommended “dosage” was 20 minutes though. I’ll keep that in mind for next time.

I love naps too, it’s just so hard to have one. Unless I have the house and night to myself and unplug the telephone.

I’d need to go to bed at 9 to get 8 hours of sleep…sadly impossible, cause I’m a math major.

I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to sleep at 9… I read somewhere that you shouldn’t be on the computer or watching the TV in the two hours before you go to sleep. All these unrealistic ideals..

It doesn’t really matter what I’m doing before I go to bed — it’s mainly what time I get up. If I get up at 1, I’d need to go to bed at 5 in order to fall asleep normally.

Since I normally get up at 5:10, I can usually sleep perfectly going to bed at 10:40.

5:10! That’s darn early, earlier than the sun.
