Obama may have a busy week ahead, but I don’t (yet)

Written by Annie on January 24th, 2009

Barack Obama takes the oathThe best part of exam week is when it’s over and you realize you have all this free time on your hands. It’s kind of like the end of the year, except instead of summer you just get a few days to do nothing. No essays to write, tests to study for, or even school in general. My exam schedule conveniently crammed all my exams into the first bit of the week (it gets split over a weekend), so I am free. Free like a bird, or whatever metaphor fits best.

I was busy at school on Inauguration Day, but rest assured, they played the historic moment on the flat screen in the cafeteria and in the library. I feel sorry for those poor folks in the caf, that would include most of the staff, trying to get everyone else to shut up so they could hear at least the gist of Barack Obama’s speech. The smarter folks went to the quiet as a (insert metaphor) library. No one dares to make a sound in the library, not when the wrath of the strict library lady is permeating the atmosphere. The only problem was that the projector kept freezing up every two minutes or so.

Obama’s sombre inauguration speech was, well, sombre, but I liked it. The crowds were amazing, stretching across the length of the entire National Mall. I’d like to know if you could even hear Obama all the way from the far end of the National Mall. They’d have to get some strong speakers.  I mean, you might be part of the atomsphere, but if you’re cold as hell, squeezed between strangers, and can hardly even see Obama, then it would be nice to at least hear his voice, right?

Now that Obama is finally President, we can see if he’s just a compelling orator or if he can lead America out of crises of all kinds.

While Obama has a busy four years in front of him, I have a free week until semester two comes my way. A free week that I have a feeling won’t be so free.

“The best part of exam week is when it’s over and you realize you have all this free time on your hands.”

Hmmm, I thougt the “correct” feeling should be “From the exams, I realized what I had missed studying and now I need to make up or reinforce those parts”.

Sounds like you had done a great job in your study, nice.

    Thanks!

In regards to the “correct feeling,” I have to say that the correct feeling and the actual feeling hardly ever match up. That’s just the way life goes.
