My latest music obsession: The Thrills
Written by Annie on January 30th, 2009I shall admit with all the guilt in the world that I have been watching old episodes of the OC, the teenage drama with rich kids in Southern California. There, it’s out there, the revelation that I am absolutely addicted to empty teenage dramas with the rich and disturbed. Hence the reason I became frustrated when Megavideo shut me off after I exceeded their time limit.
It seems that all teenage dramas after the Dawson’s Creek era (2003 and on) have good music-selecting-people. In fact, songs seem to be played in every pivotal or emotional scene. The song that plays during the scene becomes a part of it. You may also interpret this as the acting itself does not hold up on its own, the scene relying on music to fill the emotion. Whatever the case, it brings viewers like myself good music, usually from smaller bands hardly ever played on the radio.
Throughout the OC, the characters see live bands at the local venue, the Bait Shop. In season two, which happens to be the season I’m going through now, one of these bands playing happen to be the Thrills. I heard “Not for all the love in the world” while watching the episode last week. And for this past week, I have become obsessed with this Irish indie rock band.
If empty teenage dramas are good for anything, they’re good for bringing good music into my life.
To document my ever changing music obsessions, here are some the Thrills songs.
(I’ve used Youtube, but the first and last aren’t music videos. Youtube is just a convenient way of posting a song)
Saturday Night by The Thrills
Not for All the Love in the World by The Thrills
Faded Beauty Queens by The Thrills
Note: I apologize in advance for the unnecessarily large picture of Adam Brody.
