What is the universal emotion?
Written by Annie on March 20th, 2009I wish I could write down all the interesting things that my piano teacher says. She’s Russian, and all the time she makes deep statements about life, people, “them,” students, and telemarketers.
During my last lesson, she was telling me how I needed to play this Beethoven song more expressively, and this was a segment of our conversation.
Piano teacher: What’s the universal emotion?
Me: Love?
Piano teacher: Does everyone feel love? No. But does everyone feel anger? Yes. Everyone has been angry. Everyone knows anger.
Hahaha. I don’t think my piano teacher is a believer in love, because she’s married and on multiple occasions she has said (very seriously), “Annie, never get married.” Sometimes she says this in front of her husband, which I don’t think is the nicest thing to do.
I think I’m writing about other people too much. I just wrote about my french teacher not too long ago.

Wow, I wish my piano teacher would say things like that! Just out of curiosity, were you playing For Elise? That was my favorite song to play, of all time. (:
Aww, that’s so sad that she doesn’t believe in love! I feel bad for her hubby. ):

I was playing Sonata No. 5, which has a lot of angry moments. I love Fur Elise too. My piano teacher refused to teach me it, saying it was overrated and too much of a love song for her tastes, so I learned it on my own.
I feel bad for her husband too… I’ve spoken to him a few times and he’s very nice, even if he never smiles.

Teachers are just awesome though, because you forget they’re actual people and have lifes other than teaching!
She makes a point though. About the anger thing. I’d miss your french teacher too, she certainly sounded interesting.

That’s true. Teachers who tell you about things other than what they’re supposed to teach are the best!

Aww, I’d like to think everyone has felt love in some way! Not necessarily in a romantic sense…
